A message to the "hold my nose and vote" conservatives...

@ 09:40 AM (10 months, 6 days ago)

Too many of you are talking about voting for McCain simply to counter Hillary Clinton's presidential bid.  I appreciate the anti-Clinton delirium,  I really do,  however, ask yourself one simple question, does John McCain care if you hold your nose while you cast your ballot?

Do you believe that McCain and the GOP establishment that is now fawning over him are worrying behind closed doors because you cast a less than eager vote?  Absolutely not.  Behind closed doors McCain is not fretting over how to win your favor, he is laughing at you and saying things like "Dumba$$ conservatives will vote for anyone with an -R behind their name!"  Your vote for McCain will be seen as, and characterized by the mainstream media as, a vote for his anti-conservative policies.  Several articles, I've read just this morning are characterizing the country as "moving left".  Guess how that happens, people...  When we continue to support candidates that don't move forward our agenda, every nose-holding vote is seen as a sign that we approve of the direction these liberal politicians are moving the nation.

Instead, we should sit out a few rounds and when a smart candidate comes along who speaks to us, we should march in droves to his side.  At that point, the party will see the power of conservatives and pull right to get our votes.  You can't push your agenda forward if you give up your only leverage and our only leverage is inside the booth.

Think.  It's patriotic.

  3. Ron Paul or bust!

  4. Boy, I've missed you, Cate!

You're arguments are almost identical to the same dilemma I had with Clinton I... Do I hold my nose and vote for the betrayer of liberalism? No, like you, I couldn't support the radical shift in my party's dogma.

The Republicans benefitted from the shift to the right, and we wound up with the buffoon of Bush II. So, I'm even MORE opposed to Clinton II, and if she got my party's nomination, I'd jump ship and vote McCain, just to stick the Republicans with the blame for what would follow.

So, I applaud your principles, Cate! Stay home, or go and vote for the Constitution party candidate, or the Democrats, or whatever your intellect says is right.

  5. Michael,

I've missed you, too, it's been way too long!

As for November, I'll right in Ron Paul if you will! What do you say?

  6. Let me see how my party's nomination process goes. If there's a Clinton on the ballot, then I'll join ya!

  7. And I'm not even going to touch that broo-ha-ha you and EB have going on over apostacy...

    Comment by Michael— 2008/02/07 @ 08:25 PM — (Reply)

  8. LOL! EB and I break all the rules of polite conversation - we talk politics and religion - but you know, neither one of us would ever take it personal - even if it got heated.

And since he's in favor of people owning assault weapons, I'd apologize quickly and profusely if I ever did hurt his feelings

  9. I'm not taking it personal and to be honest I don't know what I'm going to do....I may end up voting AGAINST McCain in the same manner you are

    I simply haven't decided

    but

I have other friends who think otherwise

    Mike,

    How are you?

It's not a brouhaha...it's more like one cousin disagreeing with another but remaining family

  10. Very distant cousins... twice removed ;-) LOL!

Just kidding, EB, I love you like a brother, you know that by now.

  11. Of course the discussion was both polite, respectful and intricately engaging... but forgive this old Catholic-at-heart (if not necessarily in actuality at present) for getting slightly jumpy anyone starts talking about apostacy. You ALL have fallen away from the rock of Peter, after all... ;)

And no- I'm not jumping into that fire- I conceed the depth, richness, and fullness of both your beliefs, however heretical they may actually be.

Cate... now that you're back in your beloved South, shouldn't you be careful when you talk about loving your siblings??

  14. haha - at least we Southerners can blame the stupidity on inbreeding. Minnesotans voted for Jesse Ventura without the benefit of a genetic scapegoat. Explain yourself, sir!:lol::lol:

  15. The best way to avoid Hillary is to support Obama now. At least it is possible that he is kindasort truthful. It's time to move on to the next generation and although I was it was a Republican, nonetheless I support Obama and urge the rest of you to do the same.

  16. Obama is corrupt, a warpig who wants to continue an unconstitutional undeclared war, a Muslim, gay, a cocaine abuser, and has been linked to terrorist groups.... You can not be serious, Barry. Hillary sucks but you should be focused on both of them getting beaten - not joining their ranks!

    Comment by Dugg— 2008/02/08 @ 06:23 AM — (Reply)

  17. Dugg,
Much of those claims have already been debunked but I am also rejecting Obama now. He stooped yesterday and made some really nasty partisan comments that revealed his true nature. If I can find them, I'll post them. So much for the optimistic campaign...

    Comment by Cate— 2008/02/08 @ 06:56 AM — (Reply)

  18. Debunked by who? Just saying they aren't true isn't anymore valid than just saying they are.

    Comment by Dugg— 2008/02/08 @ 08:00 AM — (Reply)

  19. I defy anyone to debunk his connection to Chechen terrorism. Zbigniew Brzezinski.

  20. I believe Ed is the only one who I've heard debunk - but all he said was "baloney" and I don't figure that settles the issue.
Ed/Ernie/Barry whoever he's logged in as is just blinded by his Hillary hate.

  22. Wasn't a week ago Mhit was saying DC needed cleaning up and how he would fight to the end. Guess that was more BS.

  23. Me, too, and a stark comparison to Huckabee's opportunism.

    Comment by Cate— 2008/02/08 @ 10:33 AM — (Reply)

  24. I hate to sound skeptical, but frankly, Mitt's future was pretty well set after his failures in Iowa and New Hampshire. That he stayed in even up to this point was, I believe, his pitch to establish himself for 2012, provided McCain loses.

    Comment by Michael— 2008/02/08 @ 10:51 AM — (Reply)

  25. I think if conservatives had gotten on board with him earlier, we could have had a different outcome. Good will come of this, however...

In the future, the conservative kingmakers will be less likely to hold back endorsements since their johnny-come-lately-ness helped McCain this go-round. And second, the Mormon issue will be old news next time.

  26. if anyone knows about BS dugg it's you

  28. Make a statement by voting Ron Paul.
