Help! The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is after me.....

@ 03:58 PM (27 months, 28 days ago)

According to Ward Churchill, the University of Colorado professor of ethnic studies who blamed America for 9/11, public officials who do not share his anti-American stance are out to get him.  From the governor to the University administration, Churchill charges, higher-ups have used their position to convene a "kangaroo court" designed to oust him.

Interestingly, the charges that have concluded with Churchill being served notive of the university's intent to dismiss him have absolutely nothing to do with his inflammatory post 9/11 commentary.  A committee "found Churchill guilty of research misconduct and another panel recommended that he be fired because of "repeated and deliberate" infractions of scholarship rules".  Plagiarism.  Intellectual larceny.  The mortal sin of academia.  That's why Churchill's once rising star appears to be crashing and burning.  And yet, Mr. C would have us believe that he is the victim of a political witch hunt.  How very predictable - to claim 'victim' status.

The Denver Channel has the story, which ends with this great statement by CU's interim chancellor Phil DiStefano "A university is a micro-place of ideas, a place where controversy is no stranger. An opinioned discourse is applauded. But as is true of all liberties, enjoyed by all Americans, with freedom, comes responsibility."

  6. Cate,

You're a fairly open-minded conservative, so I'm going to ask if you can explain to me why so many conservatives seem to care so much about Ward Churchill, a pissant professor at an only slightly significant university? I guarantee that noone outside of Boulder heard of this guy. He makes a dumb comment about 9/11, and it seems to me like his life story becomes an ongoing soap opera that conservatives need to follow. He was hardly the only one to make inane comments about that tragedy (see Falwell and Robertson for more notable examples). Maybe you can explain it to me.

  7. Michael,
For the right, Churchill has become a symbol of the ever growing anti-American movement. And as you well know, symbols are extremely important in a war of ideologies.

As for the weirdos on the right, they all got crucified by conservatives when they made stupid comments.

Churchill's latest comments to appear in print media typify how the right sees the left and made him a poster child for some of the more reviled liberal stereotypes.

Beyond that, the world of American education holds special interest for Conservatives who feel that the system, and the academics it demands we subsidize, teach doctrines and dogmas that are contradictory to our own beliefs. OPinions are presented as fact and theories as absolute truths.

Michael, I think you'd be shocked to read my undergrad papers. as a history major with special interest in modern Latin America, you could see very pro-socialist sentiments in everything I wrote.

Then I grew up. I travelled the world. I started seeing for myself the failings of socialism in South America.

And I quickly became disillusioned with Che.

Take a look at this blog written by Kent State Professor, Julio C. Pino. Do you think Americans should pay for his salary? Or give him a tax-payer funded platform for teaching our children?

  8. More ANTI-AMERICANS-
I am not sure how to spread the word and I hope everyone reads this. My parents are in Europe right now on business and were able to catch a Pink Floyd concert. About an hour into the set Roger Waters turned his stage into a political platform. I just want people to know that this guy has a two sided pocket book because they are on their way here to tour... please spread the word.

this is a copy of the email my father sent to Bill O'Riley today:

On July 16th my wife and I took the opportunity to see Roger Waters (Pink Floyd founder) in Locarno, Switzerland expecting to hear some of our old favorites. However, a few songs into his set he turned the concert into an anti-American, anti-British, anti-Israel platform. At one point he sang the words “George your Texas education must have f#!*ked up when you were small” as the crowd cheered. Roger is of the belief that any one fighting evil is evil themselves. How quickly generations forget what evil is. No wonder with the constant slanted press and people like Roger spreading their own message of hate, people in Europe have a low opinion of Americans. I wondered if when he gave a concert in Israel on June 22nd and the many concerts in England if he performed the same songs we heard in Locarno, or is he two-faced enough to give a different message knowing it might put off his sales. Any way, I thought your listeners would be interested in knowing what Rogers real feelings are and would consider this when he begins his tour in the U.S. later this September.
